Brownie Troop 2450 visits Infinite Hope
On March 5th Brownie Troop 2450 came to visit Infinite Hope to learn about what we do. A very enthusiastic group of 15 girls shared stories about their pets – from turtles and snakes to cats and dogs – and learned the importance of keeping them healthy.
They used stethoscopes to hear their own heartbeats and quickly discovered how much more quickly those of dogs and cats were. They were surprised to hear about all of the homeless animals in shelters and living on the streets in Brooklyn and were quick to pick up the concept of TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) and learned the importance of controlling feral cat populations.
Later we heard that one little girl had her family looking at cats on the streets to make sure their left ears were "tipped"! The hit of the day was Wiggins – the grey tabby kitten – who was passed from girl to girl for a cuddle. In the end, with Infinite Hope lunch bags and the motivation to share animal rescue with their family and friends, the girls reached into their own pockets and donated money to help Infinite Hope with our rescue kitties! Thank you Brownie troop 2450!

Rosie’s Walk for Kittens
Each summer Infinite Hope gets emergency phone calls to rescue kittens that have been left behind in an empty apartment or born on the street and left to fend for themselves — with no food or water.
Rosie was one of the lucky ones. A 911 call came to Infinite Hope that a defenseless kitten had been left out in the rain on the sidewalk with no mother cat in sight. Meowing with hunger and shaking with cold, Rosie was wrapped in a towel, warmed up with a heating lamp, bottle fed and whisked to a foster home where she was fed every 3 hours and given the veterinary care she needed. Rosie is now 8 weeks old, a bouncy baby kitten who is ready to find a permanent home!
On August 11th we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge to raise money for kittens like Rosie. Our goal is to place 25 kittens this summer in permanent homes. 100% of the money that is donated will go to the care and placement of these kittens.
You can still make a donation if you would like. Also let us know if you would like to foster or adopt a kitten like Rosie.
Infinite Hope at the Atlantic Avenue ArtWalk 2011
Our Infinite Hope table for art walk was colorful and lively. Situated outside Hope Vet and manned by board members and volunteers we raffled off an iPod touch and educated any willing passerby on what we do. In the process we raised money for special needs pets and Brooklyn pet owners who needed assistance caring for and feeding their pets during a financial crisis. Look for our table outside Hope Vet at Atlantic Antic!
Packer Plants Our Infinite Hope Garden
On a sunny Saturday in May, 25 volunteers ( adults and children) from The Packer School assembled at Hope Vet with one mission. To plant an organic vegetable garden on the roof of Hope Vet and decorate planters that would help raise money for Infinite Hope— Hope Vet’s sister organization that rescues and places animals in permanent home and helps Brooklinites with foster homes for their dogs and cats when they are experiencing financial hardship.
The Packer team was well organized and quickly formed a line up the stairwell to the roof garden. Each person in turn handing a bag of mulch to the next so that the fun part of planting and watering on the roof could begin. Even the 6 to 12 year olds pitched in and planted seedlings!
Our Board President, Una Elias, gave the children a lesson on feral cats in Brooklyn and how we can help them through Infinite Hope’s TNR (Trap–Neuter –Return) program. While Infinite Hope’s Vice-president and resident TNR expert, Basia Zamorska, was on hand to organize the decorating and painting of the planters.
The Packer team finished the entire garden project in 3 hours! All in all a fun and rewarding day. Kudos to our Packer volunteers!
