Infinite Hope Programs
Animal Rescue, Foster Care and Adoption
Our volunteers rescue stray and abandoned animals, as well as those from the Brooklyn CACC, and work to find loving, permanent homes for them. While in our care, all of our rescued animals receive high-quality food, shelter, positive interaction with our volunteers, and all necessary medical care. Infinite Hope is not a formal shelter. Some animals are fostered by a small group of volunteers, while a limited number of animals are boarded at Hope Vet, who generously provides veterinary care and space for a small adoption center to our rescue.
Workshops on the Human-Animal Bond
IH has developed and lead workshops exploring the human – animal bond and educating people about the impact of this bond on the lives of both humans and animals. These workshops address many issues such as the physical and psychological benefits of living with animal companions, the uses of service and therapy animals for various human populations, the roles animals play in families, and the emotional toll of pet loss.
Compassion Fatigue Workshops for Shelter Workers
IH has implemented workshops for shelter and animal rescue workers to allow a safe space for the expression of the many feelings associated with this type of endeavor. The purpose of these workshops is to allow for sharing, normalization of feelings, education about burn-out, secondary trauma and compassion fatigue and to provide healthy strategies for coping and rejuvenation. IH believes that these workers should receive as much of our support as possible as they are on the “front lines” of a very necessary and yet often painful type of work which requires all their courage and emotional stamina.
Helping People and Pets in Crisis
IH is embarking on a mission to provide assistance to people and animals in crisis by developing a foster care and volunteer network to assist with various needs. Humans in crisis may require a temporary foster home for their animal companion due to a medical or financial crisis, relocation due to family violence or foreclosure, or any unanticipated emergency. In some cases, people may need in-home support in caring for their four-legged family member(s) until they get back on their feet or they may need food or other supplies for a short time. These programs are in development and will be announced in the future!
Palliative Care and Bereavement Support Services
Facing the end of a beloved pet’s life is probably the most difficult aspect of living with a companion animal. They are the children that rarely outlive us. The experience of end-of-life care has been described as being one of the most intense experiences of an individual’s life. Myriad feelings arise, combined with pragmatic tasks that must be performed. Both feelings and tasks can be affected by environmental factors including people, other pets and external responsibilities and events.
This support group aims to provide a supportive, informative and nurturing
environment in which animal caregivers and those who have recently lost a pet
can explore feelings and concerns and share experiences with one another. This
is a drop-in group and is open to everyone. It meets weekly on Thursday at
7pm at Hope Vet. There is no fee for attendance. However, contributions to
Infinite Hope's rescue and social service programs are always welcome but
are in no way mandatory! For more information, contact us at infinitehope@hopevet.com.
